Probably like many others on your friend-list I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 really ass early this morning at midnight.

I decided it wasn't really fair to subject my fandom friends to my med school related rantings, so I decided to make a seperate blog for that kind of stuff. I'm just getting started on it, but in case you are interested in tracking my future downward spiral into stress induced insanity, here's the link to it. :)

I thought this was super funny.

And ummmmm...when did Neville get hot? He's bringing out the cougar in me and I'm not sure how to feel about it.

41 Days until I quit working (29 actual work days)
46 Days til the white coat ceremony where I get my spiffy medical student coat that has my name embroidered on it and that labels me as a useless noob to all medical staff of a hospital, and also where I take the Hippocratic Oath and thus become ethically obligated to raise my hand on an airplane if the flight attendants ask if there is a medical professional on board.
48 Days til med school retreat where I get to wear my Snow White costume.
51 Days until classes start.
86 Days until my first exam.

I have 51 days until I start medical school. FIFTY ONE! That seems like an enormous amount of time to me right now. But when I put it into context that I've been waiting 3 years for this summer to finally arrive (as that is the amount of time that has passed since I graduated from college) it really isn't that long at all. I'm starting to slowly submerge myself back into the world of science...and the world of having to think about more than when True Blood premieres, who was thrown off of SYTYCD last night or if Lindsey Lohan is going back to jail.  I work in a research lab, but what I do is mostly mindlessly repetitive, and since it's not what I want to do for the rest of my life, I've never felt the desire to spend my weekends looking up relevant journal articles and contemplating their impact on my work. Therefore, I've had a three year hiatus from any stressing academic thought (minus the 4 months I took to study for and take the MCAT) and my brain is a bit like a car that was left to sit in a garage all winter that sputters and coughs for several minutes before is actually gets with the program and turns over the engine.

I've been told repeatedly by several people that are in different positionsin the medical hierarchy (4th year med student, fellow, attending) to not even attempt to pre-study anything for my upcoming classes this fall. But that something productive would be to brush up on medical terminology. So yesterday I sifted through my old college text books and found my medical terminology book for the blow off elective course I took in my senior year of college. It was such an easy A that I would do my homework for it while watching Project Runway (I guess maybe my hiatus from stressful academic thought may have started in my senior year of college after all). That was back when all I cared about was getting an A in that class, so it further padded my GPA, so I'd have a better shot at getting into medical school. Well now I'm IN (or soon will be) medical school, and what is in that book is the new language of my life, and I need to be fluent in it sooner rather that later. Referring to cardiomegaly as "a really big-ass heart" will probably not cut it with my professors. So that is my new project, to review that book and re-learn the things in it which took me very little time to forget in a fraction of the time it took me to originally learn it.  I started going through it yesterday and as I did it felt like I was pulling out cob-webs from all the cracks and cranies in my mind. The information was familiar and comfortable but just slightly out of reach of being solid knowledge in my head. If I'd read about it in some book I'd go, Oh yeah I'm familiar with that, but if asked by someone to define certain terms without the aid of wikipedia, I'd be SOL.

But as I start to intentionally focus on getting my brain back into shape, I find myself unlocking doors to rooms of information. Those rooms need a thorough dusting as a thick layer of apathy has coated the mental books contained therein, but there is information there that I'd thought completely lost. As I crack the books and thumb through them I remember the enjoyment of learning certain bits of information in the first place. Oh yes, I think, I was in the library studying for Dr. King's class when I reviewed sodium pumps in the kidney and he happened to pass by, scoffing at me for being a senior who actually stepped foot in a library.  However, the books are missing pages or have holes in them...information sadly unrecoverable due to the unkindness of time...and from watching too many episodes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.  But the spines of the books are  intact and perhaps that information will be easily recovered come August when I start studying for medical school. Hopefully, those mental books are not too far gone to be fully repaired and restored to their original shiny glory.

So I have a little over 8 weeks until I start medical school (I both want it to go by fast and drag it's heels in coming). The weekend before classes start they have a retreat for the first year students to get to know everyone in the class, some of the upperclassmen and some of their professors. During this retreat there is an epic costume party, and it is MANDATORY that we all dress up....they won't let us in the party otherwise...no joke. Anyway, this year the theme is DISNEY!

I am super excited about this theme, because as many of you know I ADORE all things Disney. So now I need to come up with some costume ideas that are fun, attractive and flattering on me. Which may prove to be difficult as I'm what match.com would describe as having "a few extra pounds" aka pleasantly plump aka big boned. I'm 5'8'', so I'm kinda tall too. Here's a picture of me:

I've put on quite a few pounds since this was taken, as I was still single in this picture and had yet to start gorging myself as you do in new relationships.  Damn you boyfriend of mine for not making me feel self-conscience about my body, thus allowing me to get away with  working out less and eating lots of brownies! You're the worst BF ever! (<---this is sarcasm)

My thoughts so far are: Snow White, Queen of Hearts or Minnie Mouse.

Any and all ideas are appreciated, as this is one way I can try to make a good first impression on my classmates and professors. :)

I'm thinking about applying for an hh_flourish shop. The sigtag sale is always my favorite part of Hogsmeade, so it's getting to me thinking it might be good to open my own shop! I'm nervous and a little intimidated about it because I'm basically an infant when it comes to graphic skill, and I'd be working with Gimp software, so I'd be somewhat limited in what I could do. But I think it could be fun, and it would force me to keep learning new graphic techniques. It also may be a good incentive to save up some money and buy a better graphics program.

Here are some of the sigtags I've made for people during Hogsmeade and such (I've reduced their size for practicality purposes):

The Gryffindor In-House Superlative Nominations were announced today and I'm totally floored about how many nominations I got. I was expecting maybe one category, but I was nominated in SIX! That is insane to me. And it means alot to me, because...well because obviously it means people like me!  ^__^

I'm never sure how I come across to others, and this was my first term at HIH. So I'm surprise and elated and touched and happy and all that jazz. It's nice to know that I'm carving out a little home there. Even if I don't win any of the categories, I'm already thrilled (however cheesy and cliche that may sound).

So here are the nominations I got:
  • Most Likely To Be Prefect
  • Simba Award for the Shiniest Cub
  • Prefect's Pet
  • Biggest Gryffinpuff (This one surprised me, but I'll take it!)
  • Insane Participation Award
  • Lavender Brown Award for the Biggest Social Butterfly (This one was the biggest shock and brought me lots of joy to get  ^__^)
HUGE BIG THANK YOU to everyone who nominated me for something. It's definitely made my Day/Week/Month/TERM!

So this past weekend was Stamping Weekend at HIH, and I put in an application for Original Character. I decided to screen my comments so people didn't get lazy and just copy...and as a result I got a wide variety of answers. But there was still an overwhelming majority for one character.
